The Tracks of My Years

Dominic Monaghan Downloads His Life

Dominic Monaghan got his big break at the age 25 when he was cast as hobbit Merry in in Peter Jackson's 150-million epic trilogy The Lord Of The Rings. Since then, he has joined the Hollywood elite, cementing his fame by playing the recovering drug addict in Lost. Off-screen he is engaged to co-star, Canadian Evangeline Lilly.

A passionate Manchester United supporter, he has stayed true to his roots -- he sites Mancunian band The Smiths as his favourite -- even though he is now firmly based in LA

He is said to be particularly good at impressions, and is often to be found clowning around on set. 'I would like to be remembered as someone who made people laugh,' says Dominic. 'Well, I would just like to be remembered, really.'

THE RECORD THAT GAVE ME MY IDENTITY I Am The Resurrection The Stone Roses (1992) When I was 16, the Roses dictated the way I walked, the clothes I wore, the way I did my hair.

MY KARAOKE SONG Suspicious Minds Elvis Presley (1969) If I find myself in a karaoke bar I'm going to get up and sing at least once. I really have no shame. I did my version of Suspicious Minds at a fancy dress party in Sheffield, dressed as a frog, and it brought down the house.

THE FIRST RECORD I REMEMBER Mr Moonlight The Beatles (1964) I was about seven and in my dad's car and I remember asking him to rewind it over and over again. The opening bars are just John Lennon screaming and I thought I was listening to an angel. It was a hugely powerful moment. This was the first music I felt was mine.

THE SONG I GET ROMANTIC TO Le Moulin Yann Tiersen (2001) It's a beautiful piano piece from the soundtrack to Amelie. I've had a girlfriend for a long time now so copping off with women isn't something that is really an option. But this is a very romantic song and if I'm trying to set the mood, then this is perfect.

THE RECORD I'LL ADMIT TO LIKING Last Christmas Wham! (1984) Even though it's a little cheesy, Wham had some good songs. I have their greatest hits Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go is good, but I like the soppy ones like Last Christmas and Careless Whisper.

THE RECORD IN MY COLLECTION I'M MOST PROUD OF Definitely Maybe Oasis (1994) It's a limited-edition CD made for the music industry - and I managed to get one.

THE SONG THAT MAKES ME CRY Some Folks' Lives Roll Easy Paul Simon (1975) The lyrics are about how you can be the greatest person I the world yet your life doesn't work out.

THE TRACK I LIVE FOR RIGHT NOW I Go To The Barn Because I Like The... Band of Horses (2006) I recently discovered the album Everything All The Time and I'm now at the point where there's one song you listen to that becomes the greatest track in the world... for two or three weeks.

MY GYM TRACK 7th Chamber The Wu-Tang Clan (1994) If I'm getting sweaty and feeling the pain I want to be shouted at by tough New York hoodlums. I have a hard time putting on weight so I don't run or do cardio. I bench press, lift weights and do shoulder work. Then I swim and surf but  you can't listen to music while you're surfing. That would be silly.
