The Boston Herald reported that ex-waiter Reuben Games, who plays one of the extra castaways on the hit US drama, is currently in Hawaii, where he hopes the show will resume filming soon.

He also speculated that when the Hollywood writers' strike ends, the show's creators may have further plans for the character of Charlie, the musician and ex-heroin addict played by Dominic in the first three seasons of the show.

"I think he's really dead," Reuben said of the character. "But I've seen [Dominic] running around Oahu, so who knows?"

Reuben said he hopes the strike is finished soon so that fans have the best chance of seeing a 12-episode series this year.

"We have eight episodes done and two have already aired," he said. "It takes two weeks to film an episode so if we get going right away, we might be able to pull it off."
