(20 December 2000) Letter from Dom

Sharon received this letter from Dom to post on the site. He shares with us his thoughts and the last few days spent filming the Lord of the Rings.

"The four Hobbit boys filmed there last scene as a foursome on Friday, reacting to the coronation. Pete and Fran were on set which was great and bottles of Boli were cracked open and we filmed a gag reel in which we all drank from the bottles in the scene.

In the evening all the gang are frantically packing away nearly two years of stuff and for me it's a nightmare as I am a hoarder, how do I transport 12 pieces of art?

I had my last training session with my personal trainer, Dave Nuku, who is a great, great man and a awesome trainer. That was very sad as I have spent every day off practically training so we have become very close. I gave him a photo of Billy and I messing around, and Dave got a me a gorgeous piece of greenstone.

This week we have finished off Treebeard scenes. Sad to get down from the old guys shoulders for the last time, he's become a good friend. Billy and I would sit up there for hours above the crew drinking from bottles of water and eating cakes, singing songs, stretching our backs out as it's quite uncomfy.

The last day (Friday) is gonna be insane. I am on a few units and on a normal Friday the energy in the air is amazing to experience so on wrap day people are gonna be losing there minds. The wrap party is looking to be coming together smartly with a few surprises along the way.

This project has been for me and for my dear friends a supernatural experience. We have all grown so much in the last year and have been around for each other in some really stressful times. I feel so blessed to have met such an interesting bunch of people, and to have been able to tour New Zealand, mixing with the most friendly people I have ever met.

To add to all that while making all these close bonds and seeing this wonderful country and surfing (which I consider one of the best things I have ever done) and scuba diving, and d-jaying in bars, and going to Thailand and Sydney, we have been part of what will be a benchmark in movie history. A film of such breathtaking adventure and characters that it has to be seen to be believed.

And when you see you will believe."
