Lost: Will Charlie and Penny Return? Dominic Monaghan and Sonya Walger Reveal To IGN If They'll Be Back. by Matt Fowler
March 13, 2010 - We were all excited to see Dominic Monaghan's tragic rocker Charlie Pace show up in the season premiere of Lost last month. But was that the last we'll see of Charlie in the final season? And what about Penny Widmore, played by Sonya Walger. The last time we saw her, Ben was trying to kill her as part of a revenge pact. But with Desmond popping up in the premiere and Alan Dale's Charles Widmore finally resurfacing in last week's episode, all signs are pointing to a return gig for Penny, right? Well at a press event for ABC's FlashForward, IGN TV had a chance to speak with both Monaghan and Walger about their possible Lost farewells.
So will Charlie be back? "That's more of a questions for the writers, "Monaghan said. "Again, that's like asking Huckleberry Finn if he's going to be in the next Mark Twain book. I'm a fictional character. I have no control over that." Of course, the writers would be working on the finale scripts right now and, at the Paley Fest two weeks ago, executive producers Damon Lindof and Carlton Cuse revealed that Charlie's story was not over and that we'd probably be seeing him again before the season was over. "If they write something that I like and it's something that I'm into, then sure," Monaghan stated. The question was put to Monaghan if he had already shot anything else. "No," Monaghan answered, "and I have to be really protective over what I do on that show because I like what they did with my character and I like where my character was, and unless it's going to push my character in a new direction, or push the story in a new direction, then my focus will probably remain on this [FlashForward]." Since Monaghan told us that he hadn't filmed anything beyond the premiere, it might be safe to assume that if Charlie does appear again in Season 6, he will most likely turn up in one of the final episodes. Of course, there's also a very good chance that he was just lying.
